Breast Implant Removal with Dr. Hong – Expert Body Contouring Across Gangnam, Apgujeong, Cheongdam, Myeongdong, Hongdae and All of Seoul

What Is Capsulectomy?

Capsulectomy is surgery to remove some or all of the scar capsule that forms naturally around a breast implant. It’s commonly performed to treat capsular contracture (tight, firm, or painful capsule), address implant rupture, reshape the pocket for better symmetry, or prepare for removal/replacement.

Why Choose Fresh Dr. Hong Clinic

  • Board-certified surgeon with high-volume revision and contracture cases
  • Pocket analysis, imaging review (if available), and individualized capsule strategy
  • Scar-smart planning using prior incisions when appropriate
  • Multilingual coordination and interpreter support for international patients

Who’s a Good Candidate

  • Firm, distorted, or painful breast after augmentation (Baker Grade II–IV)
  • Imaging or exam suggesting rupture or gel bleed that needs pocket clean-up
  • Recurrent malposition (bottoming-out, lateral drift, symmastia) needing pocket revision
  • Patients planning implant removal, exchange, or lift who also need capsule work

Types of Capsule Management

  • Partial Capsulectomy (Selective Removal): Removes the problematic areas while preserving healthy capsule for support.
  • Total Capsulectomy: Removes the entire capsule to reset the pocket environment.
  • En Bloc (When Indicated & Safe): Removes implant and capsule together as one unit—used selectively based on anatomy, rupture status, and safety considerations.
  • Capsulotomy (Release): Strategic incisions or scoring to soften a tight capsule when removal isn’t necessary.

Procedure Overview

After measurements and pocket assessment, Dr. Hong removes and/or releases scar tissue as planned. The pocket is irrigated, internal support may be added (internal bra/sutures), and—if planned—an implant exchange, pocket conversion (subglandular ↔ submuscular), or lift (mastopexy) is performed in the same session.

Anesthesia & Time

  • Anesthesia: General
  • Duration: ~1.5–3 hours depending on complexity and combined procedures

Recovery Timeline (Typical)

  • Days 1–3: Swelling/tightness; support bra; early walking
  • Week 1: Light activities; dressing/drain care if used
  • Weeks 2–4: Gradual return to routine; avoid chest workouts
  • Weeks 6–8: Resume full exercise if cleared; shape and softness continue to refine for months

Results & Expectations

Most patients notice improved softness, symmetry, and comfort as swelling resolves. If implants are exchanged, size/profile can be adjusted to current goals. Existing incisions are reused when appropriate to minimize new scarring.

Safety & Considerations

Discussed during consultation: bleeding, infection, fluid collection, asymmetry, recurrent contracture, changes in sensation, implant malposition, need for staged revision, and imaging follow-up recommendations after replacement.

For International Patients

We offer virtual pre-consults, interpreter availability, transparent quotes, and clear travel-safe timelines—from arrival to follow-up—so your capsulectomy (with or without implant exchange) is straightforward in Seoul.
